On behalf of Orbit, I am involved with the NPD New Product Development department of Mobilink to assist them in their upcoming projects, which are more towards wireless data e.g., SMS, WAP,

 Presently have taken up the assignment as project manager to provide information services on the short messaging platform of Mobilink. This service will facilitate Mobilink subscribers to access information using abbreviated short codes for the desired information like current sports updates, news, Weather. The developed will also be able to PUSH information to the mobile handsets on pre-defined events and also for any kind of breaking news. The users will get email alerts via the SMS on their phones informing that a new email have arrived in the inbox and also giving information of the sender, the subject and some content from the body of the email as the SMS messaging is limited to 160 characters. It will support online chatting and also the users will be able to send out small emails (160 char) from their mobile phones.

We at Orbit for the first time ever in Pakistan have conceived, developed and implemented the concept for Virtual Internet Service Provider. The Virtual ISP is called Mobilink Online MOL, which rides on the backbone of Orbit. This virtual arrangement reduces the time to market of an upcoming ISP as they don’t have to build their own infrastructure, which is both quite cumbersome and expensive and also requires a lot of manpower. In this setup a customized application is built which includes MIS of their own setup where they can create new accounts, new tariff plans, add new users of the MIS and have a complete overview of their own operations through a bouquet of management reports which includes sales reports, network monitoring and other management reports.

Laison with PTA (Pakistan Telecom Authority) regarding regulatory matter of telecom projects, coordinating with Managing Director (Telecom Projects) and General Manager (Business Development) for the upcoming projects of the Telecom division which includes Fiber Optic cable project (FLAG), Wireless Local Loop, Cable Television network, Voice over Internet Protocol, Web based call centers, Info services over GSM SMS platform, WAP (wireless application protocol), Store and forward fax, E-commerce. Represented the Telecom division on various platforms, Involved in preparation of pre-bid documents and bid openings. Interacting with PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited) for operational and regulatory matter of Internet service providers

Heading and supervising the operational matters regarding the Information Systems department of the company which is involved in providing internet services. Prepared the functional specifications of the MIS, online internet billing & customer care software.

Senior Engineer-Software Design & Development Informatics Complex (ICCC) 1993-98

Working in the database design, development & implementation group gained extensive experience in Oracle 8.0 for Windows NT database administration and front end user level application development using the Developer 2000 Tools.

Working in the Computer System Design & Development Group (CSDDG), areas of responsibility include design and development of hardware, development of control system code, design and development of interfacing software. Have completed several PLC programming based control system design projects in the group including; Simulator design and testing, Plant control system, integration and automation of instrumentation lab.

Independent Software Project Work   1995-98

 Independently developed the Information storage and retrieval software for the Computer Training Center (CTC) Library using Oracle (RDBMS). Have also developed the Vehicle Operating Cost Model for World Bank and continually develop application software for Associated Consultancy Center (ACC). Have completed more than 20 such application software projects for ACC.

Working in Product Support Department, was responsible for installation, service & maintenance of computers and peripherals. Major projects handled include; Macintosh network of NEWS, IBM 3270 emulation for Amex, LAN set-up for British High Commission, Computerization of MCB Islamabad/Pindi Branches and Interfacing of PC with Mobile Switch at Instaphone.
